Representing Iraq, the Deputy Minister for Sports Affairs, Dr Hassan Al-Hasnawi, attended the opening ceremony of the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, standing in for Minister Dr Ahmed Al-Mubarraq. The regional sporting event, which brings together athletes from 57 member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), aims to strengthen cultural and sporting ties among Islamic nations.
Saudi Minister of Sports, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, welcomed Iraq’s participation and conveyed his greetings to Minister Al-Mubarak during his meeting with Dr Al-Hasnawi. He expressed his wishes for continued progress in the strong sporting relations between the two nations.
On the sidelines of the event, Iraq’s Ministry of Youth and Sports signed an executive programme with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Sports to activate the memorandum of understanding between the two sides. The agreement covers a wide range of joint activities, events, and cooperation in sports development.
The programme was signed by Dr Al-Hasnawi on behalf of Iraq and by Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al-Masaad, Deputy Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, on behalf of Saudi Arabia, in the presence of senior officials and representatives from both ministries and the Iraqi Embassy in Riyadh.
