Iraq, UK Hold Defence Talks to Boost Cooperation

Iraq’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Salih Husain Ali Al-Tamimi, met UK Minister of State for Defence Vernon Coaker at the UK Ministry of Defence to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and security cooperation.

Coaker reaffirmed Britain’s support for Iraq, highlighting the country’s stability as an important factor in wider regional security.

Al-Tamimi said Iraq was seeking to deepen ties with the United Kingdom, citing its influential diplomatic role, and described enhanced cooperation as a strategic priority for Baghdad.

He also stressed the Iraqi government’s commitment to protecting diplomatic missions operating in the country and reiterated Baghdad’s position against the use of its territory or airspace for hostile acts against neighbouring states.

Iraq has called for de-escalation and an immediate ceasefire in regional conflicts, the ambassador said, adding that such steps were essential to maintaining both regional and international stability.

Both sides emphasised the importance of continued coordination to support security and stability.

The meeting was also attended by Iraq’s military attaché in London, Commodore Abdul Hussein Alak Abdul Sayed.
