On Sunday 20th July 2025, the Iraqi community in London took centre stage in a heartfelt charity football match against Sudan, raising funds for humanitarian causes in Palestine. Hosted by the Sudan Football Club in London, in collaboration with the Iraq Football Club, the event showcased the solidarity of Arab diaspora communities in the capital.

Despite the rainy weather, supporters and spectators of all ages from both sides gathered to enjoy the game. There was an array of stalls selling freshly made Iraqi and Sudanese sweets, along with hot and cold beverages.

The match ended in a 1–1 draw, with Sudan scoring just after the half-time break. Iraqi player Omar al-Seadi netted the equalising goal in the closing minutes, lifting the spirits of the Iraqi supporters.
Iraqi players expressed their pride in representing their country in London. “Regardless of it being a charity match, everyone was still passionate,” said one team member, who also shared his pride in being from Samawah, southern Iraq.

Other players echoed this sentiment with comments such as, “It’s a big honour,” and “I’m really proud to be representing Iraq at this charity event.”

Events like this highlight the vibrant presence of Iraqis in London and strengthen their connection to the wider Arab diaspora.
