Youth Leading Climate Action at LCOY Iraq 2025

The Iraqi Ministry of Environment is championing global efforts to strengthen youth participation in climate action. The participation of UNESCO in the Local Conference of Youth on Climate Change (LCOY Iraq 2025) took place under the supervision of both the Iraqi Ministry of Environment and the Green Space Organisation for Creativity and Sustainable Development.

The session, titled “Youth at the Heart of Climate Action,” emphasised that green leadership is not limited by age or position but is driven by determination, passion, vision, and the courage to pursue real change. Participants shared a range of ideas on how young people can engage in these spaces and play an active role in shaping climate policy, ensuring that climate initiatives reflect youth voices and remain forward-looking.

UNESCO’s participation highlights its commitment to enhancing the environmental literacy and capacities of future generations, empowering them to take a leading role in tackling climate change through science, culture, and creativity. The conference forms part of the global LCOY series recognised by the UNFCCC, serving as a key platform in the lead-up to the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP30).
