The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in Iraq welcomes a new contribution from the People’s Republic of China, with support from the United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund – Peace and Security Sub-Fund.
This marks China’s first-ever contribution to UNMAS Iraq. Their support will allow for increased civilian safeguarding, while also advancing reconstruction and socio-economic recovery in areas previously affected by conflict.
Through the support of China and other donors, UNMAS will work alongside Iraq’s mine action authorities, such as the Directorate for Mine Action (DMA) and the Iraqi Kurdistan Mine Action Agency (IKMAA), in order to build capacity and effectiveness.
