UNICEF Launches EMIS Across Thousands of Iraqi Schools

UNICEF said on Monday it has begun implementing the Education Management Information System (EMIS) in thousands of Iraqi schools, aiming to improve governance, planning and service delivery within the national education system.

The system is now operating in more than 16,000 schools nationwide, providing education authorities and school administrators with centralised, digital tools to manage enrolment, staffing and infrastructure data, replacing fragmented paper-based processes.

UNICEF noted that EMIS enables schools to adopt more consistent, transparent and data-driven management practices, allowing faster responses to institutional needs and improving coordination between schools and education authorities at different levels.

As part of the rollout, over 14,000 teachers and school personnel have been trained to operate the system, supporting its day-to-day use and long-term sustainability, with a strong focus on inclusive participation within the education workforce.

Implemented with funding from the European Union and in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Education and UNESCO, EMIS forms part of broader efforts to reinforce Iraq’s education infrastructure, helping build a more resilient and efficiently managed school system that better supports children’s learning environments.
