The GCLT Concludes Rice Shipments to Ministry of Trade

The General Company for Land Transport (GCLT), a department of the Iraqi Ministry of Transport, has stated that its truck fleet has transported over 5000 tons of rice to Ministry of Trade warehouses. Through this effort, the Ministry of Transport has observed its obligations to the Ministry of Trade as part of a contract to ensure consistent supply of food for monthly food rations.

Murtadha Karim Al-Shahmani, the Director General of the GCLT, has stated that the vessel “Christinad” had been carrying the cargo in question. After its docking at Umm Qasr Port, the company’s fleet of trucks overtook transportation of the cargo into the Ministry of Trade’s various warehouses in Iraq. The Director General has also extended his gratitude and praise to the company’s drivers for their admirable efforts to complete their tasks efficiently and rapidly.

The GCLT’s role of transporting food in the framework of the contract between the Ministries of transport and trade is part of a larger government programme to ensure food security for vulnerable and disadvantaged communities.
