Shell Discusses Investment Opportunities in Iraq

Today, the Executive Vice President of Shell Oil Company, Mr. Richard Howe, was received by Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani, in Baghdad.

The meeting discussed areas of cooperation in developing Iraq’s energy sector and investment opportunities that serve both sides’ interests.

The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to mobilising all available resources and efforts to implement major projects under signed contracts with international companies, particularly those related to gas investment and achieving self-sufficiency in gas production.

Prime Minister Al-Sudani affirmed that Shell’s proposals for reforming and developing the oil sector align closely with the government’s vision and plans. He reiterated the government’s openness to working with companies that possess advanced technologies, experience, and capabilities to implement strategic projects aimed at upgrading Iraq’s energy sector and modernising its infrastructure.

For his part, Mr. Howe emphasised that Iraq presents a suitable investment environment, affirming Shell’s commitment to advancing gas projects in Basra, along with efforts to develop exploration blocks in Dhi Qar and the western region, in ways that enhance and expand Iraq’s energy production capacity.
