The Basra Gas Company has, in a landmark achievement, successfully loaded the largest liquified petroleum gas (LPG) tanker ever, in Basra. At the export terminal in Khor Al-Zubair, Basra, the 20,000 tonnes capacity tanker, named GasChem, was loaded in a first-of-its-kind event in Iraq’s history.

The achievement follows the full rehabilitation of the second berth at Khor Al-Zubair, completed last September, allowing the port to handle bigger vessels and increase export capacity.
This milestone showcases the Ministry of Oil’s commitment to boosting domestic gas production, and expanding Iraq’s global presence in the energy market. The Undersecretary for Gas Affairs, Mr Izzat Sabir Ismail, praised the sector’s growth, and applauded the dedication of the Basra Gas Company, whose efforts reflect Iraq’s broader ambitions for sustainable growth and stronger international partnerships.
