President Amedi Calls for Stronger Support for Iraq’s Arts

President Nizar Amedi has called for greater support for Iraq’s cultural sector, stressing that investment in the arts is critical to reinforcing national identity and social cohesion.

The remarks came during a meeting at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad with representatives of the Iraqi Scientific Society of the Arts (ISSA), where discussions centred around the future of Iraq’s cultural landscape. The delegation, headed by the head of the ISSA, Ghada Al-Ameli, also congratulated the president on his recent appointment.

“Supporting creative talent is essential to preserving our national identity and reinforcing the values of coexistence and diversity,” President Amedi said. “The arts play a vital role in reflecting Iraq’s civilizational depth and bringing communities together.”

Al-Ameli welcomed the president’s focus on the sector and reaffirmed the organisations commitment to advancing artistic initiatives and nurturing emerging talent. “We are committed to fostering creativity and developing the artistic movement in a way that highlights Iraq’s rich cultural heritage,” she said.

The meeting must signal part of a broader push to elevate the role of culture and the arts within Iraq’s policy agenda. It is vital, therefore, that constructive dialogues such as these continue to take place.
