The Ministry of Planning organised a workshop titled Enhancing Clients’ Capacity to Influence as part of its Knowledge-Sharing Program on Wednesday 25th February. It is aiming to strengthen institutional performance and improve the effectiveness of development project implementation.
The workshop was held within the framework of the International Experiences Forum and supports the Ministry’s broader efforts to enhance strategic planning, public policy formulation and project management efficiency.
Director General of the International Cooperation Department, Dr. Saher Abdul-Kadhim Mahdi, said the event builds on specialised training sessions organised by the World Bank for employees working on loan-funded projects, as well as grant-related programmes. The initiative was launched at the Ministry’s request to improve institutional capacity and operational performance.
The workshop reviewed international experiences that can be adapted to Iraq’s legal and economic environment, in coordination with relevant entities including the Ministries of Finance, Agriculture and Environment, as well as the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.
Participants were briefed on the World Bank’s operational project cycle, environmental and social framework requirements, loan guidelines and mechanisms for utilising World Bank documentation in project management and financing processes. The programme also included operational and peer-learning components tailored to the needs of Project Implementation Units and government decision-makers.
Officials emphasised that applying the acquired knowledge will contribute to stronger institutional coordination, improved compliance with national regulations and more efficient implementation of development projects.
