One of Iraq’s Largest Hospitals Under Construction in Nineveh

The Ministry of Planning has intensified oversight of the demolition and reconstruction project of Ibn Sina Hospital in Nineveh, a strategic healthcare facility designed to serve more than 4 million residents in Mosul and surrounding districts.

The hospital, set to have a capacity of 600 beds, is being built on a sprawling site of approximately 100,000 square meters. The project includes a 14-floor main building, a nine-floor residence for medical staff, a dedicated service building, hotel-style patient rooms, a heavy water treatment station, water tanks, a parking facility for about 750 vehicles, and a helipad for emergency air transport.

Upon completion, the facility will house 24 state-of-the-art operating theaters for various specialties, consultation clinics, surgical wards, laboratories, pharmacies, and advanced diagnostic equipment, including ultrasound and MRI machines. It will also feature specialised departments in internal medicine, surgery, respiratory, cardiac and psychiatric care.

The project is listed among the strategic initiatives under the Emergency Support Law for Food Security and Development and is being executed according to the latest international construction and medical standards.

Officials from the Ministry of Planning conducted a field visit to review the current progress and monitor the implementation of quality and safety standards. The hospital is expected to be completed by mid-2028, marking a significant milestone in the revitalisation of healthcare infrastructure in Nineveh.

The Ministry of Planning continues to follow the project closely, ensuring that it meets its strategic objectives and timelines, as part of the government’s broader efforts to rebuild essential public services across the country.
