Northern Gateway Project Enhances Road Links Between Najaf and Karbala

The Ministry of Planning announced progress on the Northern Gateway Project in Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf, a key infrastructure initiative designed to improve road connectivity between Najaf, Karbala, and neighbouring governorates.

According to the ministry, the project includes the construction of several main structures and facilities, most notably an eight-storey tower building featuring administrative offices, service areas, and meeting halls. The building is being constructed using reinforced concrete and covered with GRP materials.

The project also encompasses two additional buildings measuring 200 and 300 square metres, alongside facilities such as prayer areas, internal roads, and a specialised unit for police dogs. Landscaping, decorative fountains, and essential service networks for electricity, water, and drainage are also being implemented as part of the development.

The Ministry of Planning highlighted that the Northern Gateway Project is one of the most important infrastructure developments in Al-Najaf, aimed at easing travel between Najaf and Karbala and supporting local economic growth. It forms part of the broader Al-Qawsi – Southern Najaf development plan, which seeks to strengthen infrastructure and promote sustainable development across the governorate.
