Iraq has taken a major step in strengthening its digital infrastructure with the signing of a contract to build the country’s first government data centres for commercial use.
The agreement was signed in Baghdad between the General Communications and Information Company and Nokia International, under the patronage of Minister of Communications, Dr. Hayam Al-Yasiri.
The data centres will be built at Al-Tansar Agency and Al-Rashid Agency (Sinak) in Baghdad. The facilities will serve both government and private institutions, providing secure storage and management of data within Iraq for the first time.
Dr. Al-Yasiri mentioned the project will ensure that the data of Iraqi citizens and companies is protected inside the country, managed by local specialists, and safeguarded under international standards of reliability and cybersecurity.
