The Sadr City Oncology Center in Baghdad has officially opened, marking a major step forward in expanding access to specialised cancer treatment for residents of the area.
Built on 1,250 square metres, the new facility is equipped with advanced medical equipments, including two linear accelerators capable of delivering radiotherapy to around 60 patients per day, an estimated 2,000 patients per month.
The centre also houses 12 chemotherapy rooms and four specialised consultation roomsensuring comprehensive care for patients at all stages of their treatment journey.
The launch of this oncology centre forms part of broader national efforts to upgrade Iraq’s healthcare infrastructure, particularly in underserved and conflict-affected areas. For Sadr City residents, who previously had limited access to such services, the centre promises to reduce the burden of travelling long distances for treatment, or seeking care abroad.
With advanced diagnostic tools, chemotherapy agents, and laboratory facilities, the centre is expected to significantly improve both the quality and accessibility of cancer care in Baghdad.
