New Infrastructure Projects Central To Iraq-Turkey Relations

Iraq’s Minister of Transport, Mr. Razak Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, hosted Turkey’s Minister of Trade, Mr. Omar Bolat, in Baghdad on Monday to discuss advancing trade and economic ties between the two neighbouring nations. The Turkish minister arrived with a high-level delegation of approximately 150 businessmen, including members of the Exporters Council, the Contractors Union, and media representatives.

Welcoming the delegation, Mr. Al-Saadawi emphasised the deep historical and geographical ties between Iraq and Turkey, stating that the Development Road Project is a cornerstone for establishing robust strategic trade relations. He reaffirmed the Iraqi government’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation and balancing trade between the two countries, highlighting the importance of mutual efforts in fostering economic growth.

Mr. Bolat echoed these sentiments, highlighting Ankara’s focus on expanding trade with Iraq. He noted the significant contributions of Turkish companies to infrastructure projects in Iraq and reiterated Turkey’s readiness to support the Development Road Project, which he described as a vital trade corridor with the potential to transform regional and global logistics.

The Turkish delegation also extended congratulations on Iraq’s progress, particularly the completion of the first five berths of the Grand Faw Port. The port, hailed as a critical infrastructure achievement, is expected to enhance Iraq’s role in the global transportation network and contribute to economic development across the region.

The discussions mark a promising step in strengthening Iraq-Turkey relations, with a focus on shared opportunities and long-term collaboration in trade, infrastructure, and economic growth.
