Najaf Pilgrimage Road Project Nears Full Completion

The Ministry of Planning has reviewed the progress of the Najaf Land Pilgrimage Road, a strategic 239-kilometre route connecting Iraq with Saudi Arabia. The project is part of the government’s programme in Najaf Al-Ashraf Governorate.

Officials confirmed that 78.5% of the project is complete, with full completion expected by the end of 2025. The road is designed to facilitate the movement of pilgrims and visitors, while also boosting trade and revitalising the Najaf desert region through agricultural and industrial investments.

The Ministry called on relevant authorities to expedite the release of project funds to ensure the road is completed on schedule and opened for public use.

The project is considered a key initiative for Iraq’s infrastructure development, enhancing both religious tourism and economic activity in the region.
