Mosul Railway Station Nears Completion Ahead of 2026 Reopening

Iraq’s Ministry of Transport has announced that reconstruction of Mosul Railway Station has exceeded 90 percent completion, with the facility expected to reopen in the first quarter of 2026.

The ministry said the station has been redesigned in a modern architectural style while preserving elements of its historic façade. Facilities will include passenger waiting halls, service and cargo areas, underground parking, goods transport elevators, administrative offices and reception spaces.

Once a major commercial hub linking Mosul to regional trade routes, the station was completely destroyed during the ISIS occupation of the city. Reconstruction efforts began after Mosul’s liberation in 2017, with construction work officially starting in mid 2022 under Iraq’s Regional Development Plan.

Officials say the reopening will play an important role in restoring transport services and supporting economic recovery in Nineveh Governorate.
