After a decade of dormancy due to conflict in 2014, Mosul International Airport is set to officialy open and resume its commercial opertions on 10th June.
The reopening marks a major milestone in Iraq’s effort to rebuild critical infrastructure and reconnect the northern city with the rest of the country and the world.
The airport’s return to service follows a successful trial landing by Iraqi Airways Boeing 737, on the airport’s newly rehabilitated runway. Iraqi Airways will serve as the launch airline, with regular flights to and from Mosul now set to resume. The Ministry indicated its readiness to coordinate with international carriers in line with ICAO standards and national aviation regulations.
The Iraqi Ministry of Transport confirmed that the airport is now fully operational and open to all carriers with the appropriate approvals. Ministry spokesperson Maitham Al-Safi hailed the reopening as a “purely Iraqi achievement”, describing it as gateway to economic recovery, job creation and renewed global ties.
The project was overseen by the Iraqi Ministry of Transport and reconstructed to meet international standards, with full support from federal and local authorities. Officials hailed the reopening as a symbol of resilience and a key step in Iraq’s broader plans to boost tourism, trade and regional connectivity.
