Ministry Organises Marathon in Support of Humanitarian Causes

Iraq’s Ministry of Youth and Sport are organising a sports marathon as part of an upcoming initiative, featuring 16 days of activism in support of violence against women.

Under the patronage of the Minister of Youth and Sport, the Women’s Affairs Department in the Ministry and the Baghdad Women’s Association organised a sports marathon at the Scouts Stadium in Baghdad, as part of the scheduled Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence programme.

The event, which witnessed widespread participation from women and girls across the capital, aimed to spread a culture of strengthening community understanding and knowledge surrounding issues regarding women’s rights and their positive role in building society, whilst encouraging women’s participation in various fields.

The event concluded with a small award ceremony, with the distribution of trophies and medals to the winners of the activities.

In a speech delivered by the Director of the Women’s Affairs Department, the Ministry reaffirmed their commitment to spreading values of peace and rejecting all forms of violence against women.
