Ministry of Planning Reviews Mosul–Sinjar Ring Road Project

The Iraqi Ministry of Planning has conducted a field inspection of the Mosul–Sinjar Ring Road project within Tal Afar Municipality in Nineveh Governorate, reaffirming the government’s commitment to advancing strategic infrastructure projects across the country.

Specialised technical teams visited the site to review progress, assess completion rates and identify challenges affecting implementation. The visit is part of ongoing efforts to ensure projects are delivered according to approved standards and timelines.

The Mosul–Sinjar Ring Road is considered a vital project for the region. It will link the cities of Mosul and Sinjar through Tal Afar, strengthening connectivity across Nineveh Governorate. The road is expected to boost commercial activity, improve the movement of goods between districts, ease traffic congestion in city centres and make travel smoother for residents.

According to field data, the project is 36 percent complete. Although it was originally scheduled for completion by March next year, work is currently suspended due to service-related obstacles and delays in financial disbursements. The responsible technical committee has recommended swift action to resolve these issues and resume work in line with the planned schedule.

The road will extend approximately 8 kilometres and include main and service lanes designed to handle expected traffic volumes. The project also involves paving, sidewalks, traffic signage and drainage systems to protect the road and ensure safe use.

The implementation of the Mosul–Sinjar Ring Road comes within the broader framework of the Iraqi government’s efforts to modernise the national road network and strengthen infrastructure systems. Officials emphasise that such projects play a crucial role in supporting economic development, enhancing public services, and promoting stability and growth in Nineveh Governorate.
