Just today, on April 23, the Iraqi Ministry of Health hosted an event to celebrate World Autism Awareness day, along with the participation of specialists.
The event was created as a message of support for the individuals on the autism spectrum along with their families. In a speech addressing the humanitarian efforts to improve the lives for citizens with autism are an important part in building a society, several presentations were shown, detailing the work done by the Al-Safa Center for the Care of Children with Autism and the Jordanian Autism Academy.
The event also detailed the progress and implementation of mental health services for children with autism, along with collaborations with both national and international organisations that create campaigns to reduce social stigma for individuals on the spectrum. All of these services are free and covered by health insurance, making them easily accessible for individuals and families that need the support. There is also a call for educational institutions to come into collaboration with the Ministry of Health to further help support children on the spectrum and their families. The celebration concluded with giving gifts and snacks to the children that attended the event.
