In the midst of the Ashura pilgrimage, the Baghdad Karkh Health Directorate has launched a new campaign to raise awareness for visitors’ health and safety during peak religious tourism times.

Led by the Associations Health Centre, part of the Primary Health Care Sector, the campaign prioritised simple but effective health advice. Healthcare teams shared vital tips on the importance of hydration, with the average daily temperature reaching above 40 degrees Celsius. Masks were also recommended, to protect against infectious diseases, especially considering the large crowds Ashura draws in.
This outreach is part of a bigger effort by the Karkh Health Department to raise awareness during the busy visiting season. On the advice of national health guidelines, the team is working to ensure everyone taking part in the pilgrimage can do so as safely as possible.
