Japan Funds New Anaesthesia Device for Baghdad’s Al-Kadhimain Hospital

Japan has signed a grant agreement to provide advanced medical equipment to one of Baghdad’s leading hospitals, further strengthening healthcare services in Iraq.

The grant contract, worth $65,493, was signed by Japan’s Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Akira Endo, and the Executive Director of the Iraqi Health Access Organization (IHAO), Ms. Hala Mohammed Al-Saraf. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Muqdad Al-Khafaji, Director of Al-Imamain Al-Kadhimain Medical City Teaching Hospital, the beneficiary of the support.

The funding will be used to purchase an advanced anaesthesia machine, expected to enhance the hospital’s surgical capabilities and improve the quality of patient care.

Built in the 1980s by Japan’s Marubeni company, Al-Kadhimain Hospital continues to serve as a vital healthcare centre for Iraq. The assistance falls under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), through which Japan has implemented more than 100 projects in Iraq since 2003 in the fields of health, education, public welfare, and landmine clearance.

The new device marks another step in Japan’s long-standing partnership with Iraq to improve healthcare infrastructure and deliver better medical services to citizens.
