Iraqi Women Take Centre Stage in Economic Workshop

The Ministry of Youth and Sports’ Women’s Affairs Department hosted an economics awareness workshop called: Economic Empowerment of Iraqi Women Through Government Agencies. 

Brought together by the female ministry staff, this event was held in the Department of International Relations in Baghdad. Mr. Ali Qasim, the director of the Minister’s Office, opened the session with a speech highlighting their goals in supporting women’s advancement, in economics and on a larger scale.

Economics expert, Dr. Mohammed Al-Gharawi, delivered a keynote speech on the significance of women’s roles in economics, not just through employment but also through decision-making and community development.

This was followed up by a presentation of a development programme by Express France, funded by the French Development Agency, of a model of international cooperation in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This prompted discussions from various participants, including Dr. Fatima Al-Zahraa Nafaat, the Director of the Women’s Affairs Department, who provided valuable input on the power of education.

Beyond just a workshop, this event is a huge step forward towards a future where Iraqi women play bigger roles in Iraq’s economic development.
