Iraqi House of Fashion Supports Revival of Baghdad Textile Heritage

Organised by the Iraqi House of Fashion, an official visit to the General Company for Textile and Leather Industries’ carpet factory took place on Wednesday, 4th of February.

Ms. Najwan Faris Abdullah, the Iraqi Fashion house’s Director General, organised the visit to the Kadhmiyah district based factory in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture’s Women’s Affairs Unit to promote the revival of the Iraqi textile craft heritage.

The House of Fashion’s delegation observed the process of handcrafting carpets and blankets, looking at ways to integrate traditional Iraqi textile heritage with modern designs.

The General Company for Textile and Leather Industries’ handmade carpet factory, previously known as Fatah Pasha Factory, was founded in 1926 by Ottoman army general Fateh Pasha and his son.
It is known for being as an industrial and historical landmark in the
Kadhimiya district of Baghdad.
