Iraqi Heritage Celebrated at London’s William Morris Gallery

Initially released in 2023 for UK audiences, ‘Name Me Lawand’, directed by Edward Lovelace, tells the story of a young, deaf, Kurdish boy’s journey from Iraq to Derbyshire, UK. The film covers themes of family, belonging and identity, migration and ultimately hope

Nearly two years after its release, the film was screened at the William Morris Gallery on Thursday, 6th November. 

The film serves as a reminder that Iraqi stories can speak powerfully to wider audiences. 
As London’s cultural scene continues to hold space for migrant-led narratives, the screening of ‘Name Me Lawand’, offers a simple yet meaningful glimpse into Iraq’s growing global cultural presence.
