Iraqi Government Introduces New Anti-Bullying Initiative Across Schools

On Wednesday this week, the Iraqi Department of studies conducted a workshop titled “Life Skills to Combat Bullying in Children” as a way to help adults in the education industry to provide tools and support children that are facing bullying in schools. This workshop was held at the Circle Hall in the Science Care Building in Baghdad and went over all the different categories of bullying, including physical threats, and also discussed the effects on a child’s mental health when subjected to bullying on a long term basis.

The main ways the workshop discussed combating bullying was through the use of preventive measures and instructions on how to give children the communication and problem solving skills needed in order to stop bullying in a conscious and effective manner. There was also discussion on the importance of teaching the value of respect toward fellow classmates being tolerant of other people and cultures. With these applications in mind, the Department of Studies hopes to show the importance of building safe and supportive systems for young Iraqis.
