Leading the Iraqi delegation was Dr Jabbar Judy, the Director General of the Cinema and Theatre Department and President of the Iraqi Artists Syndicate. Several key figures from Iraq’s theatre scene joined alongside him, including pioneering artist Awatif Naeem, director Jawad Al-Asadi and actor Maimoun Al-Khalidi.

Iraq held a vibrant presence at the festival, with performances of the play ‘Circus’, and a special session honouring the late icons of Iraqi theatre – Sami Abdel Hamid and Iqbal Naeem.

Since its launch in 1988, the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre has grown to become a major platform for showcasing boundary-pushing productions and encouraging global collaboration in the theatre arts.
