Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani announced $450 billion in investment opportunities across multiple sectors during the Iraq Investment Forum in Baghdad, held in partnership with the Prime Minister’s Office, the National Investment Commission (NIC), and the Iraqi Economic Council (IEC). The two-day event showcased more than 160 projects aimed at attracting domestic and international investors.
Al-Sudani highlighted government reforms designed to improve the investment climate, including amendments to the Joint-Stock Companies Law and the Holding Companies Law to support small and medium-sized enterprises and private funds. He stressed the digitisation of public services, banking reforms to meet international standards, and efforts to raise Iraq’s credit rating to reduce interest and insurance costs for projects in the country.
The Prime Minister also noted the government’s engagement with the private sector, citing projects such as the Eduba school construction and the “Riyada” programme, which has trained 92,000 young people, funded 12,000 new projects, and created 20,000 jobs. Also mentioning, Iraq’s economy is diversifying across housing, industry, pharmaceuticals, construction, food, and energy, with more than one million housing units underway and 54 factories already exporting regionally and globally.
Al-Sudani emphasised that improved security and stability, along with expanded electronic payment systems and strengthened financial governance, have created a safe and attractive environment for investment. Plans to establish a permanent council of Arab and foreign investors linked to the Prime Minister’s Office and a dedicated conference on the Development Road Project aim to further facilitate investment.
With total investments already surpassing $100 billion, the forum underscored Iraq’s efforts to foster sustainable growth, generate jobs, and strengthen private sector participation in national development.
