Iraq and Turkey resumed negotiations on Monday in Ankara to finalise a new agreement for transporting crude oil through the Iraqi-Turkish pipeline.
The Iraqi delegation was led by Bassem Mohamed Khadir, spokesperson for the Ministry of Oil for Upstream Affairs, while the Turkish side was headed by Ahmed Barat Chonkar, spokesperson for Turkey’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources.
Officials from Iraq’s Oil Marketing Company (SOMO), Northern Oil Company, and directors from planning, legal, audit, and economic departments also participated in the talks.
The discussions focused on a proposed draft agreement and ways to expand energy cooperation through joint projects between the two countries. Both sides described the negotiations as positive, highlighting that the agreements reached would strengthen bilateral energy ties, ensure the continuity of crude oil transport, and support shared strategic interests.
