Iraq, together with other Gulf oil producers including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, is set to increase crude oil shipments to India in December. The move comes as Indian refineries seek alternatives to Russian oil amid ongoing global sanctions.
Officials at several Indian refineries said Middle Eastern suppliers have agreed to meet their requested volumes for December. Some refineries are expected to receive higher shipments from Iraq compared with previous months.
India, the world’s third‑largest oil importer, is increasingly turning to Gulf producers to secure reliable supplies and better terms. The additional shipments from Iraq and other OPEC countries will help India maintain steady crude imports while reducing reliance on Russia.
For Iraq and its Gulf partners, supplying more oil to India provides an opportunity to strengthen trade ties and regain market share in one of the world’s fastest‑growing oil markets. The exact volumes and commercial details have not been publicly disclosed.
