Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani met on Wednesday with the Ambassador of Switzerland to Iraq, Mr. Daniel Hunn, and the Ambassador of Sweden, Mr. Jörgen Lindström, to discuss opportunities for expanding cooperation in the energy and development sectors. The meeting was also attended by the Executive Director of Linxon and the company’s Director for Asia and the Middle East.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq’s openness to major international companies, particularly those from Europe, expressing the government’s commitment to creating a stable and secure investment environment. He highlighted Iraq’s ongoing phase of reconstruction and development, supported by laws and regulations designed to encourage both local and foreign investors.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the energy sector remains a top priority for Iraq’s economic growth and modernisation, noting that Swiss and Swedish companies possess the advanced technologies and expertise needed to strengthen the country’s power infrastructure and improve operational efficiency.
Ambassadors Hunn and Lindström expressed appreciation for the Prime Minister’s support and reaffirmed their governments’ interest in strengthening bilateral relations with Iraq. They conveyed the readiness of Swiss and Swedish energy firms to increase their presence and investment in the country.
The meeting also reviewed the activities of Linxon, which has been operating in Iraq since 2018 and is engaged in the maintenance of electric power stations in Baghdad. Prime Minister Al-Sudani directed the preparation of a comprehensive roadmap to identify key projects suitable for implementation by Swiss and Swedish energy companies in the coming period.
