Iraq Signs UNIDO–Qatar Programme to Boost Industrial Development

Iraq has signed the UNIDO–Qatar Country Programme for 2026–2030, aimed at advancing sustainable and inclusive industrial development.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Industry and Minerals Khalid Battal Al-Najm and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Director-General Gerd Müller on the sidelines of the UNIDO conference currently taking place in Riyadh.

The programme sets a strategic framework aligned with Iraq Vision 2030, the National Industrial Strategy 2024–2030, and the UN Cooperation Framework 2025–2029. It prioritises economic diversification, reducing dependency on oil, and supporting broad-based growth.

Key objectives of the porgramme includes job creation, strengthening the competitiveness of SME’s, enhancing food security, and promoting green industrial development. The initiative also seeks to mobilise public and private investment, drawing on UNIDO’s technical expertise to support the development of a resilient and diversified industrial sector in Iraq.
