Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani on Saturday opened the 11th Iraq Energy Exhibition and Conference (IEE) at the Baghdad International Fairgrounds, with more than 450 companies from 16 countries participating.
The event brings together government officials and international energy companies as Iraq seeks to expand cooperation in oil, gas, electricity and renewable energy projects.
In a statement, Al-Sudani described the conference as a platform for cooperation between government institutions and the private sector to implement projects based on advanced technologies and economic feasibility, including the expansion of oil and gas resources, upgrades to electricity generation and distribution networks, and greater use of renewable energy while protecting the environment.
He said the government places strong emphasis on both conventional and renewable energy to ensure sustainable development, noting that the exhibition underscores Iraq’s position as a promising market for energy investment.
The Prime Minister pointed to increased production from major oil projects developed in partnership with TotalEnergies and BP, ongoing talks with ExxonMobil and Chevron, and a reduction in associated gas flaring of more than 72%, with plans to achieve 100% gas capture by the end of 2028.
