In a major step towards a stronger, climate-resilient future, Iraq has secured a funding of $22.5 million USD, through the World Food Programme (WFP) and funded by the Green Climate Fund. The initiative will support communities across Basra, Dhi-Qar and Diwaniya.
Implemented by WFP, the project aims to reinforce food security through smarter, more efficient irrigation systems and improved water management and farming practices, to endure increasingly harsh climate conditions. This project will have an even bigger impact on families in rural areas, for whom a stronger foundation for long-term stability will be built.
The funding represents a significant achievement for Iraq at COP30. As part of the momentum, Iraqi officials also met with WFP’s Climate and Resilience Director to discuss the next stages of collaboration.
