Iraq’s embassy in Turkey have announced electronic passports will now be issued only on the basis of the National (Unified) ID card, under new directives from the Iraqi Ministry of Interior.

In a statement, the embassy announced the suspension of passport issuance based on the electronic civil record image. The new rule will take effect on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, as part of efforts to regulate procedures and strengthen data verification in line with Ministry of Interior standards.

The embassy urged Iraqi citizens in Turkey to comply with the new instructions and visit the consular section only if they possess the National (Unified) ID card.

It added that the measure aims to improve the accuracy of official records and enhance the quality of consular services provided to Iraqi nationals residing in Türkiye.
