Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani inaugurated the Internal Security Forces Hospital in central Baghdad, a 126-bed facility equipped with modern medical technologies.
The hospital, stalled since 2009, is part of Iraq’s broader effort to revive delayed infrastructure projects, with 2,582 projects inherited by the current government now under active completion.
It will operate under a joint management model, partnering with specialised companies to ensure high-quality healthcare and knowledge exchange.
Al-Sudani also mentioned progress in local pharmaceutical production, which has increased drug coverage from 10% to 40%, with a target of 82% by 2027, as part of efforts to achieve national drug security. Structural reforms and the Health Insurance Law now cover 2.3 million citizens, reflecting a broader shift in Iraq’s healthcare system.
Beyond the new hospital, the government continues to implement multiple 50 and 100 bed hospital projects across provinces, including the upcoming Al-Fudhailiyah Hospital in Baghdad. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to strengthen the national health system and improve service delivery across Iraq.
