Iraq, Oman Move to Develop Cross-Border Passenger Transport

The General Corporation for the Transport of Passengers and Delegations held talks with a high level delegation from the Sultanate of Oman aimed at signing a memorandum of understanding to develop public passenger transport between the two countries through border ports, via the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The meeting was attended by the General Manager of the corporation, Engineer Karim Kazem Hussein, and His Excellency Sheikh Mahmoud bin Mehna Al-Khorousy, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Iraq, alongside officials and specialists in transport and logistics services.

Discussions focused on mechanisms for organising cross-border passenger transport, coordinating operations within a unified transport tariff, and establishing joint contact points to follow up on implementation according to agreed timelines.

The Omani delegation reviewed the Sultanate’s experience in public transport technologies, particularly the National Transport Communications Company, and explored opportunities for cooperation in the bus manufacturing sector. The talks form part of Iraq’s broader efforts to expand regional transport cooperation, following similar memoranda signed with Egypt and Jordan.
