Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani on Saturday inaugurated construction works for three integrated water and infrastructure projects in Al-Diwaniyah Province, underscoring the government’s continued focus on essential services and long-term reconstruction planning.
The projects located in the districts of Al-Shafi’iya, Neffer, and Al-Salahiya, include sewage, rainwater drainage, water transmission pipelines, and new pumping and treatment stations. With a total investment of about 114 billion Iraqi dinars (approximately $87 million), the initiative will serve more than 250,000 residents in the province.
Al-Sudani described the launch as part of the government’s strategic plan to modernise basic infrastructure and improve service delivery across Iraq. He said service indicators have improved in recent months, particularly with the completion of several key projects in southern provinces.
According to government figures, the new projects include 207 kilometres of transmission pipelines and a treatment capacity of 17,500 cubic metres per day. The Prime Minister highlighted that Al-Diwaniyah has received 5.9 trillion dinars in allocations for ministerial projects, including the Diwaniyah Refinery and Al-Shanafiyah Power Station.
Al-Sudani urged the implementing companies to meet quality and timing standards and called for a joint provincial team to monitor progress and resolve challenges quickly. He added that the projects would generate employment for local residents and stimulate broader economic activity.
