The Minister of Higher Education and Head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Authority, Dr Naeem Al-Aboudy, laid the foundation stone for the Ministry’s new central laboratories and critical research facilities. The ceremony was attended by university presidents, government advisors, officials from the Iraqi Atomic Energy Authority, and representatives of diplomatic missions.
The new laboratories are designed to provide an advanced research environment for students and scientists, fostering innovation, experimentation, and advanced training. They will support applied research across multiple scientific disciplines and enable experiments in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, positioning Iraq as a growing hub for scientific development.
Dr. Al-Aboudy highlighted that the project is an important investment in Iraq’s future. It will give students hands-on experience, improve the quality of university research, and strengthen the country’s scientific and technological capabilities. Built to meet international standards, the laboratories will help Iraq gain recognition in the global scientific community and create an environment that encourages new ideas and teamwork.
The project also supports Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, giving future Iraqi researchers access to modern tools and a professional research space. Officials said the laboratories will act as a hub for learning and innovation, helping Iraq build expertise in energy, engineering, and applied sciences while making sure all research is safe and responsible.
This initiative is a big step toward a knowledge-driven future for Iraq. It promises clear benefits such as better education, stronger research, and the training of a new generation of skilled scientists who can help the country grow and innovate.
