Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Fouad Hussein, met with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani, last Friday, during an official visit to Rome to discuss enhancing economic relations, investment opportunities, and travel facilitation between the two countries.
Hussein requested that Italy reconsider travel restrictions to Iraq, citing improvements in security and stability, and proposed a memorandum of understanding to exempt diplomatic passport holders from visas to Italy to facilitate official communications.
Both sides highlighted the importance of expanding investment areas, developing trade ties, and supporting cultural cooperation, particularly in protecting Iraq’s archaeological and civil heritage.
The meeting underscored efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation in commerce, tourism, and institutional exchanges, reflecting a shared interest in strengthening economic and cultural links
