Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani outlined a series of national development achievements during a panel at the Middle East Peace and Security Forum (MEPS 2025), held at the American University of Kurdistan in Duhok. His remarks focused on progress in public services, economic reforms, and ongoing development projects across the country.
The Prime Minister noted that government efforts over the past period have contributed to improvements in essential services, reductions in unemployment, and stronger economic indicators. According to the government, Iraq has seen unemployment fall from 17% to 13%, and poverty reduced from 25% to 17.5% through targeted initiatives and job-creation programmes, generating more than 500,000 employment opportunities.
He also highlighted advancements in Iraq’s industrial and economic capacity, stating that 52 factories are now exporting products abroad. Banking sector reforms, according to the government, have helped attract more than USD 100 billion in regional and international investment. Progress on major infrastructure plans, including the Development Road Project, was also emphasised.
The remarks underscored a focus on sustaining progress into the next phase, particularly in areas of public services, employment, poverty reduction, economic diversification, and long-term national infrastructure.
