Established by the United Nations in 1995, International Day of Tolerance has been celebrated every year since 1996, to promote tolerance, mutual understanding, and respect among cultures and peoples.
As the cradle of civilisation, Iraq is home to groups of people from all different cultural and religious backgrounds; a melting pot, from Assyrians, Kurds, Arabs to Chaldeans, Jewish and more.
On International Day of Tolerance, 2025, Iraq’s message to its people and to the world was simple; Iraq is a homeland for all.
Under the guidance of the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Cultural Affairs, and the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, the Department of Cultural Diversity organised a celebration in co-operation with the Children’s Culture House and the Department of Musical Arts. The event featured interactive activities that embodied the spirit of acceptance and coexistence amongst the diverse groups of the Iraqi people.
The statement of The Director of the Cultural Diversity Department was one of affirmation; that celebrating the International Day for Tolerance is proof that Iraq is a country rich in community and diversity.
The themes of the discussions at the event centred on the importance of instilling tolerance and cultural diversity education into future generations in order to promote peaceful coexistence and sustainable development in Iraq.
