The Iraq Development Fund and Bpifrance signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to strengthen financing cooperation and support investment projects in Iraq, Iraqi officials said.
The agreement was signed in Paris during a ceremony attended by Iraq’s interim business affairs commissioner Thaer Wahib Hussein and representatives of the Iraqi embassy. The Iraqi side was represented by Iraq Development Fund President Mohamed Al-Najjar, while E. Isabel Pepiar, Director of European and International Affairs at Bpifrance, signed for the French bank.
The memorandum aims to support sustainable economic growth, promote job creation and improve the competitiveness of the Iraqi economy by facilitating financing for strategic development projects, particularly in production and industrial sectors.
The agreement will also encourage French companies to enter the Iraqi market and take advantage of investment opportunities in key growth areas, including industry, infrastructure and development projects.
The Iraqi embassy said the partnership forms part of broader efforts to deepen economic cooperation between Baghdad and Paris and to expand development partnerships with international financial institutions.
