Iraq Constructs Modern Ibn Sina Hospital in Nineveh

The Iraqi Ministry of Planning has announced that its specialised field teams have conducted a site visit to the demolition and reconstruction project of the 600-bed Ibn Sina Hospital in Nineveh Governorate. This vital healthcare initiative is among the major projects supported by the Emergency Food Security and Development Support Law and is intended to significantly improve medical services in the region.

The Ministry stated that the visit aimed to follow up on the implementation stages of the project, assess any challenges or technical barriers, and recommend immediate actions to accelerate progress. The hospital is being constructed according to the latest international healthcare standards and spans a vast area of approximately 100,000 square metres.

The project includes a 14-storey main hospital building, a nine-storey doctors’ residence, a separate services building, a wastewater treatment plant, wastewater tanks, a garage that can accommodate 750 vehicles, and an airstrip for emergency medical transport.

Once complete, the hospital will be equipped with 600 beds and 24 operating theatres designed to support a wide range of medical specialties. It will also house consulting clinics, hotel-style patient rooms, surgery halls, laboratories, pharmacies, CT and MRI facilities, and specialised halls for cardiology, psychiatry, internal medicine, respiratory medicine, and surgery.

According to the Ministry’s statement, the project has reached 5.4% completion. The Ministry has urged all concerned parties to take the necessary steps to overcome any implementation delays and ensure that the project is completed within the scheduled timeframe. The new Ibn Sina Hospital is expected to serve as a cornerstone of modern healthcare in Nineveh, offering improved access to quality medical treatment and contributing to the broader recovery and development of the governorate.
