Iraq, China Discuss Partnership to Modernise Public Transport Fleet

The General Company for Passengers and Delegations, under the Iraqi Ministry of Transport, held talks on Monday with a delegation from China’s King Long Automotive Company to explore potential cooperation in modernising Iraq’s public transport fleet.

The meeting, chaired by Eng. Karim Kazem Hussein, Director General of the General Company for Passengers and Delegations, included Mr. Hisham Qaw, King Long’s Director of Marketing in Iraq, and Mr. Awn Wang, Director of After-Sales Services for the Middle East region.

Discussions focused on upgrading Iraq’s bus fleet with modern, specialised vehicles and improving maintenance systems through technical training for Iraqi engineers and technicians. The cooperation aims to strengthen local capacity and introduce advanced diagnostic and maintenance technologies.

Eng. Hussein noted that the company has been steadily advancing its strategy to modernise the national transport system through partnerships with reputable international firms.

The Chinese delegation expressed King Long’s readiness to provide the latest technical solutions, logistical support, and training programmes, reaffirming its commitment to long-term strategic cooperation with Iraq’s Ministry of Transport.

The meeting forms part of the ministry’s broader plan to overhaul the public transport sector, transitioning it into a modern, high-standard system aligned with global best practices.
