Iraq, China Complete Longest Horizontal Oil Well

Iraq’s Midland Oil Company (MOC), working with Chinese firm EBS Petroleum (Zhenhua Oil), has completed the country’s longest horizontal oil well in the southern sector of the East Baghdad field, marking a major milestone for the energy sector.

The well, known as EBMK-8-1H, reached a total depth of 6,320 metres, including a 3,535-metre horizontal section, making it the longest horizontal well ever drilled in Iraq.

The project was carried out under the patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, and forms part of the government’s plan to boost production, cut operating costs and develop national oil fields using advanced drilling technologies.

An event was held to mark the completion of the well, attended by senior officials from MOC, the Oil Projects Company and representatives of EBS Petroleum (Zhenhua Oil), highlighting the growing role of international partnerships in Iraq’s energy development.
