The Chairman of Iraq’s Media and Communications Board, Dr Nouvel Aborghev, met with Mr Zaid Al-Yasri, Director of British Petroleum (BP) in Iraq, to discuss ways to strengthen coordination on media, communications, and digital systems in the oil sector, especially at key production sites in the Sand and Kirkuk fields.

The meeting addressed the quality of services currently provided, including licensing processes for broadcasting and micro-connection systems, and the use of BP-approved VSAT services. Dr Aborghev reiterated the importance of full compliance with Iraq’s national regulations regarding frequency spectrum use.

Both parties also explored opportunities for collaboration on digital transformation within the oil sector, including integration of databases and cybersecurity frameworks, aligning with Iraq’s national vision for digital governance.

Dr Aborghev also emphasised the need for BP to adhere to Iraqi media laws when producing or distributing content, highlighting the importance of legal frameworks and ethical advertising policies. The aim is to ensure greater efficiency, security, and transparency in managing vital energy infrastructure.

In conclusion, Dr Aborghev highlighted the importance of building a long-term institutional partnership between the Media and Communications Board and BP. Noting that such cooperation, based on technical coordination and information sharing, is crucial to supporting the development of Iraq’s oil sector, one of the cornerstones of the national economy.
