Iraq and UAE Collaborate on $700M Cable Network Project

Iraq has partnered with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to build a $700-million dollar cable network called the WorldLink Transit Cable Project(WorldLink). WorldLink will be a hybrid route, meaning that it will go from the sea starting in the UAE until it reaches Iraq’s Al-Faw Peninsula. It then branches into  other countries in the Middle East on land.

The project will be done in collaboration with two Iraq based companies; Tech964 and DIL Technology.
Tech964 is a technology and infrastructure investment group that mainly focuses on technological developments within Iraq. In addition to Worldlink they have worked with FiberX, an internet service provider, and are the creators of an AI agent named Agent964. DIL Technology is an internet service provider that is native to Iraq, specifically the Kurdistan region.

The project’s primary aim is to prioritise improved connectivity  within the Middle Eastern region, specifically to meet the demands set by AI applications such as data centers. It is also said to reduce reliance on routers going through the Red Sea, stating that those are unstable and would reduce latency.

The Worldlink Project has been said to provide improvements specifically to Iraq, inciting economic growth and placing the country as a significant location for online global communications. It being the centre of the project can also help to improve the general connectivity of Iraq citizens.

The project is due to be finished within five years.
